Columbia Grafonola P3-Adam

Antique Phonograph

This is the Period Grafonola P3 Adam, a phonograph released by Columbia.

The Period Grafonola is one of Columbia’s most historic and highest-grade phonographs. In 1917, during a period of national prosperity, Columbia introduced the lavish and elegant Period Series.

Judging from the small number of surviving examples, many of these models were likely not kept in regular dealer inventory and were probably available only by special order. Even so, the Period models were widely advertised and helped bring prestige to Columbia’s entire line of musical instruments.

These vintage machines were considered to represent the highest refinement of furniture styles such as Sheraton, Gothic, William and Mary, and Chippendale. Grafonolas from this period were equipped with Columbia’s finest electric motors. Their dignified and elegant appearance beautifully enhances the charm of the sound they produce.

The Columbia Grafonola was an early 20th-century American phonograph brand manufactured by the Columbia Graphophone Company. Introduced in 1907, the Grafonola was an internal-horn model that replaced the company’s earlier external-horn disc graphophones.
