[Overview]
This item is a 16-inch broadcast-use turntable released by ROBINSON in the 1930s.
Predating even the tape era, this valuable unit was used for over 60 years in broadcasting stations and recording studios during the golden age of audio.
■ The Capability of the “Second Western” ■
Robinson was likely one of the world’s oldest manufacturers of electric turntables, following Western Electric.
Although the company is often seen as a competitor to Western, many of Robinson’s engineers were former Western employees.
So much so that Robinson was called the “Second Western,” with similarities not only in personnel but also in function and performance.
Among comparable models of the time, this unit boasts outstanding playback precision.
It supports two speeds, 33 and 78 rpm, and features a rare turntable design in which the outer edge of the platter is driven directly by a belt.
This is a rare, very early model that later became the prototype for belt-drive turntables released by other companies.
The tonearm is an original GREY tonearm.
It is equipped with a mono tonearm capable of playing transcription 16-inch records as well as SP records.
A GE Vari-Reluctance cartridge has already been installed.
Dedicated styli for both LP and SP records can be set at the same time, and the unit can easily switch between the two using a rotary knob.
Stylus tips are also included as a service accessory. The condition is very good.
■ Fully Guaranteed Operation ■
Operation has been confirmed.
The motor runs extremely smoothly, with almost no abnormal noise or rotational irregularity.
Its operation is remarkably smooth and does not make you feel its age at all, showing the high level of precision and craftsmanship of the engineers of that era.
Note: Since this item is in the realm of antiques, restoration has been kept to a minimum.
It is recommended for those with a certain level of vintage audio knowledge.
Please understand that we cannot accept claims except for operational defects.
Even in the unlikely event of an accident during shipping, please rest assured that a long-established audio shop will take responsibility and handle the matter properly.
