This item is a pair of JBL C34 corner-type speaker systems in the 001 configuration, released by JBL in 1952.
It is a corner-type speaker system that uses a rear-loading horn design.
The C34 is one of the representative works of Alvin Lustig, who had been involved in JBL enclosure design since the early 1950s. Moving away from the purely functional speaker boxes of the past, Lustig’s design elevated the speaker system to the level of art.
The C34 also attracted attention for its performance. It was not simply marketed for the beauty of its exterior; it possessed sound quality and performance worthy of its appearance. This was largely thanks to the full supervision of Bill Thomas, whose relentless pursuit of sound made it possible.
One particularly noteworthy feature is the faithful reproduction of bass frequencies. Thanks to its rear-loading horn design, as the sound travels through the speaker structure, the bass becomes very rich and full, achieving powerful yet pleasant low-frequency reproduction.
