This is a set consisting of ALTEC’s 848A FLAMENCO two-way, two-speaker systems and a matching center console.
The Flamenco is one of ALTEC’s most historic and prestigious medium-sized Western-style speaker systems. At the time, ALTEC primarily manufactured professional theater speakers. In response to strong demand from its devoted customers, the company introduced this representative home-use model, designed to be smaller and lighter than its professional systems.
These speakers are equipped with rare 16-ohm 806A drivers and 416-16Z woofers, which were produced for only a limited period.
The grille’s passionate Spanish-inspired lattice design is particularly striking. Its elegant appearance further enhances the appeal of the sound it produces.
The set has been carefully stored and remains in excellent condition. Examples in this condition have become increasingly difficult to obtain in recent years.
■ Sound Quality ■
There is no sense of strain in either the low or high frequencies. Rather than simply sounding natural, these speakers deliver the powerful and unmistakable sound for which ALTEC is known.
Despite their relatively compact appearance, they offer exceptional dynamics that rival much larger speaker systems. Their ability to reproduce music with energy, impact, and a compelling sense of tension makes them particularly well suited for jazz, classical, and rock music.

The woofer is the ALTEC 416-16Z.
This outstanding woofer was also used in systems such as the VALENCIA and is widely regarded as one of ALTEC’s signature woofer units. It is among the finest woofers ever produced by the company.
The units have been tested and confirmed to operate correctly.
Both the speaker cones and surrounds are in good condition, with no sagging or hardening. Please refer to the photographs for details regarding their cosmetic condition.

The high-frequency section uses the 806A mid/high-frequency compression driver, introduced in 1964.
It is one of ALTEC’s finest driver units and is also well known for its use in systems such as the VALENCIA.
It delivers excellent definition while retaining a smooth and refined character, producing the distinctive and commanding ALTEC sound.
The units have been tested and confirmed to operate correctly.
The diaphragms are also in good condition. Please refer to the photographs for details regarding their cosmetic condition.
