[Overview]
This is the JBL C36 Viscount, a two-way, two-speaker system introduced by JBL in 1960.
The C36 is the upright counterpart to the renowned C38 Baron and was designed for vertical placement.
The enclosure features an elegant blonde finish, whose luxurious sheen adds even greater depth and character to the listening experience.
As shown in the photographs, the exterior is in exceptionally clean condition.
■ Early C36 Cabinet Made Entirely of Douglas Fir Plywood ■
The cabinets are rare early-production models constructed entirely from Douglas fir plywood.
The legs are also made of luxurious wood rather than the machined aluminum type adopted during the middle and later production periods.

Woofer: JBL D130 16Ω
The D130 is one of JBL’s most iconic early Signature Series drivers.
It is a 15-inch cone-type wide-range loudspeaker unit and is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces from JBL’s founding era in which James B. Lansing himself was involved.
Upon its introduction, it was highly praised for being able to operate with as little as one milliwatt of power and is renowned for its outstanding efficiency.
Both the speaker cones and surrounds are in excellent condition, with no sagging, hardening, or other noticeable deterioration.
As shown in the photographs, the exterior is also exceptionally clean.
Tweeter: JBL 075 16Ω
The legendary JBL 075 needs little introduction and is widely regarded as one of the finest tweeters ever produced.
These are the rare 16Ω versions.
As shown in the photographs, they remain in very clean condition aside from some minor staining and scratches.
Crossover Network: JBL N2600
The N2600 crossover network uses high-quality components, including high-voltage non-polar capacitors and coils incorporating low-loss oriented cores.
■ Sound Quality ■
The mid-to-high-frequency sound projected by the JBL 075 tweeters, crossed over at 2,600Hz, offers exceptional clarity and a beautifully refined tonal character.
Because the D130 has a slightly higher tonal center of gravity, it produces a well-defined, cohesive sound reminiscent of a full-range driver while simultaneously delivering solid, authoritative, and high-quality bass.
The system naturally performs superbly with monaural recordings. Surprisingly, it also reproduces the imaging and placement of stereo recordings with remarkable delicacy and precision—a testament to JBL’s outstanding design and engineering expertise.
